CRIME
Harper’s Crime Policy is Criminal
Harper is out of Touch
Crime is an issue of concern to Canadians. Harper’s response amounts to gimmickry to look like he is being tough on crime.
He would:
· Impose life sentences on 14 year old children for violent offences;
· Prohibit conditional sentences as punishment for minor offences;
· Close the Vancouver Insite program designed to get addicts into treatment.
Particularly offensive is the proposed life sentence for 14 year old children. These policies will NOT make Canadians safer and reduce crime. Conservatives have no cost analysis for building and staffing new prisons required to house the thousands of new prisoners. Of course, they haven’t committed money for prevention programs either. Liberals will pursue a tough, effective and smart strategy to fight crime with: · $80 million to police services to fight organized crime; · A Gun Violence and Gang Prevention Fund of $40 million; · Legislation to crack down on internet luring, cyber-bullying and other crimes where technology is used to prey on others. Please pass this along to your friends, family and networks. Senator Grant Mitchell,
Why would a 14 year child disturbed enough to commit a violent crime even
be able to understand this kind of sentence let alone be deterred by it?
Harper is out of touch.
What kind of people does Harper think Canadians are? Does he really expect Canadians will support him in subjecting children to the horrors of adult prisons – for life? Harper is out of touch.
